We continue to find ourselves daily being thankful for so many things..it's endless....

Ellie and Fort are stoked Santa made it to our home this morning.....  After continually telling them the past few months...if they behave Santa will come.  Fort woke early and went to Ellie...Wake up Ellie, Wakeup...Santa Came!! Wake up!  It's Christmass! Wow..they bring youthfulness and joy to our daily lives but this is something else ...after their gifts were opened today, Gene and I found ourselves playing with them as well...beautiful!

Above shots of out on the sea yesterday, the coast road as the guys from the guard shack are gathering wood and accepting our case of beer in return for finding our awesome Christmas Tree and then some...like introducing us to our newest addition to the family this year our puppy Thunder Bolt.

In the late after noon we join our friends that have turned into family after all the years for drinks, food christmas carols and sunset views over the desert Zaca Goddess.

May the light of beauty find it's way into all of our hearts

Merry Christmas.

It's coming on Christmas.  My son Fort thought he heard Santa hit the roof early this am, "perhaps he is doing a test run for Christmas Morning".  He also wonders what one of his friends would sound like if he spoke english.."Well Fort maybe you need to teach him, so we can soon find out"  Because he goes to a public school all of his friends speak spanish, none of them know any english.  Fort speaks both at age 6.  "Now get back to sleep bud..it's still early"..The roosters haven't even crowed yet.

The photo above is of the sky this morning just before sunrise.......the color of the sky lit up for a small moment in time.  It made me feel as if a wave of angels was passing over me to greet the dawn.

TIS THE SEASON 12/19/2009

Fort and Ellie are just like all the children throughout the world counting down the days remaining until Christmas.  We have already seen Santa Claus, and Ellie is sure she knows who it is.   We have enjoyed celebrations at the La Playita schools with pinatas and oh yes...mucho dulces para los ninos! Tis the season. That's one thing our children thought candy was a healthy cookie, then came fiestas with all the local children...there is a pinata for every occasion, it's hard not to introduce them to candy...such is life.

We also have been in the process of search for that one special christmas tree that will be in our home this holiday season.  Here we use the stalk of a century plant, unfortunately this year the choices are far and few between...the stalks are just now shooting up, yet they are a month away from being ready,....perhaps an old stalk will be selected...we will keep on searching throughout the desert, that's part of the fun anyway.

We continue to consider ourselves very fortunate to live where we are.  This morning while overlooking the Sea of Cortez, while feeling the off shore winds...I saw a few boats out there trolling, thinking to myself how cold those folks are while waiting for the sun to rise.  Just then a whale's back was slowing coming out of the water, they are enormous and at the same time incredibly graceful.  What a beautiful site.  We are presently preparing our boat and rig for our annual Christmas celebrated fishing in our panga, perhaps whale watching and enjoying the gifts the Sea have to offer....With a little luck and skill we hope to bring home a wahoo, tuna, dorado..."Chicken tonight"

MEXI CAN... 12/11/2009

It's so classic.  My grandpa Waldo used to always say "Where there's a will there's a way"  No doubt I have seen it time and time again while living here in Mexico.  There's that easy way to put it "Mexi Can".  It is so true.  This is just one example.

A few years ago the coast road had been moved inland to accomodate for some new development.  No longer is it a straight shot along the beautiful sea of cortez to our nearest pueblo, La Playita.  They went all out and cleared the trees going up and down the rugged hillsides and put in pavement, to accomodate for a new development...yep, imagine that.  No longer is La Playita the quaint little fishing village, it is now Puerto Los Cabos.

If you drive out to the East Cape today you will see what I mean when I say "This pavement has seen better days"  It's as if you have to get agile in your vehicle...turn left/ quick right/ trying to avoid huge potholes, or perhaps find the pavement what little there is left.....meanwhile avoid the cattle, look ahead the oncoming is in your lane..oh and then there is a nice build up of sand on the right bank coming out of one of the local ranch roads so you have to go onto the oncoming traffic lane...it is nothing but classic and down right Dangerous!  This is our daily venture to take the munchkins to and from school.  There are no school buses, yeehaw that would be us.

Alright, every once in a while you see the road crew out working and it is some serious manual labor.  First they work on one end to the next by foot trying to clean the road and break it down even more to get all the loose debris, yep.  Then a few days later, they come in with a truckload a asphalt dumped on the side of the road and these folks go back and forth filling the holes with a 5 gallon bucket on their shoulders.  Nothing like utilizing workforce, providing jobs and some serious physical labor.  Today I did saw a rental mini steam roller flattening out the tar...I believe it was all of 3 to 4 feet in width.  These folks have their work cut out for them...

Yep...where there's a will there's a way Mexi Can!!!

Meanwhile...We saw a king snake in the road.  A roadrunner run out in front of us, an osprey picking up a fish out of the sea...a few cattle..oh, yes and a bat ray jumping out of the water.  It has been a shile since I have seen that, the water must be getting a little cooler.  Time to take a venture out and go for a swim.

Today I saw several whales playing off the coast of La Laguna.  Tis the season, ojala...here they come.  Just yesterday I saw a lynx...(aka gatos de montana para los locals) cross in front of my path after a morning hike up into Punta Gorda.  Life is good.  Mother Nature at her best.
